Schools that use the Kids Read Now summer reading program know why it is so successful at reducing the summer reading slide. And now The Library of Congress has given us this award for our implementation of highly successful practices in literacy promotion including Innovation, Sustainability, Replicability, Measurable Results and, Evidence-Based Practices.
Nearly 3 million new books are now in the hands and homes of students. These students spend more time reading and taking ownership of their literacy because they receive books they get to choose, mailed to their home, in their name, that they get to keep! Getting kids to want to read is a complex recipe. We’ve honed our approach over the last decade to get the mix right.

Most of the activities can be implemented in just minutes with little to no prep time so you can rescue your day whenever you need to.
The perfect toolset for those days when you need that extra boost to get the vibe going. (Activities 1 AND 10 are ideal for these, especially after breaks and holidays! 🎉)
IT’S MORE THAN YOU THINK. Your students will have fun in the classroom and simultaneously learn to think outside the box, build relationships, and interact with other students. (Personal skills high-five! 🙌)
Great to leave on your desk for substitute teachers. They’ll love you, and your principal will as well! Even veteran teachers will find some new nuggets here! (We know, we asked.)
For a fun strategy to get students out of their comfort zone, follow the quick guide and watch the short video example on page 11 - plus 9 more activities to play. (Great for grouping students as well.)
How to give shy students their moment to shine: check out the ‘Find Someone Who’ game on page 16. (only dry-erase boards and markers are needed - which are optional!)
’Four Corners’ (page 7) and ‘Scavenger Hunt’ (page 14) are great activity ideas to beat boredom. They’re also enjoyable as a national holiday and end-of-term game which you can play again and again! 🥳
